My editor sent several stories via e-mail today to work on the next few days. Unfortunately, the speakerphone on my temporary cell phone interferes with my digital recorder.

Although I may not always need every interview recorded, it makes me feel secure in my accuracy. I had to rush to Wal-Mart to purchase their cheapest house phone that had speakerphone. However, I found cheap means that the speakerphone cuts in and out, so I have to return in and buy a cheaper one elsewhere first thing in the morning.

I also spoke with the Scripps librarian who helped me get set up with their online article archive system. It will allow me to do the background research necessary to a freelance reporter not covering the same beat every day.

One story my editor offered was to cover a local Obama rally on Saturday. I immediately accepted and told her “a political rally sounds right up my alley.”
